Some Things Are Long Overdue – Pittsburgh Trip, Day 1

A trip to Pittsburgh has been in our sights for years and years now. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been telling my Grandma and Grandpa that we’re going to get up there to see them ‘soon’. We finally decided to bite the bullet a few months ago, and booked our trip. After many calls to my relatives that live there, we finally had a solid plan! Off to Pittsburgh we went!

We arrived late Friday night (or early Saturday morning), and drove our rental car to our Monroeville hotel. On our way there, we had to go through Fort Pitt Tunnel, and upon exiting, a breathtaking view of the lit-up Pittsburgh skyline was sprawled in front of us.

We made it to the hotel after about a 45 minute drive, and hit the hay. Saturday morning was slow, to say the least. We woke up, and went for a swim in the hotel’s INDOOR swimming pool! Heck, we were on vacation, and weren’t going to pass up any amenities. We finally made it over to Grandma & Grandpa’s house where we got a tour of his AWESOME garden! He’s got a plethora of tomatoes of different varieties, butternut squash, beets, carrots, and my most favorite – raspberries! He’s got red and black raspberries, and they are soooo sweet and marvelous.

After the garden tour, we took Grandma to the Dragonboat Festival. I had read about it in one of the Pittsburgh Visitor Guides that my mom had given to me, and we wanted to check it out. We had some Asian cuisine, and caught some of the dance performances and demonstrations.

To finish off the day, we stopped at a local watering hole near our hotel, and had dinner. We picked up a six pack of Iron City Beer, a common local Pittsburgh brew, to tailgate with at the Steelers game Sunday (Day 2). Once back at the hotel, we cracked one of our beers, and headed down to the hot tub, where talk of children ensued. *gasp!* One day that may just happen to us!

The rest of the evening was fairly un-eventful. After all, we did have a game to get up for in the morning….

Nice pictures of “yunz guys” and Grandma & Grandpap and the southside dancers. I’m anxious to see the rest of them!
